The Washington Redskins open the preseason on Thursday night at New England.

After two weeks of hitting each other, the Washington Redskins finally open the preseason on Thursday night with a trip to New England to take on the mighty Patriots. While several of Washington’s starters are unlikely to play, it’s still an exciting time for the Redskins.

With so many young players battling for starting positions and others vying for roster spots, every minute of preseason action is important to some.

Washington was arguably the league’s most injured team. At one time, the Redskins were down four starters on their offensive line, while right tackle Morgan Moses was playing on two sprained ankles.

That means Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams — recovering from offseason knee surgery — is doubtful to play on Thursday night. Head coach Jay Gruden essentially said we wouldn’t see Williams this week.

That being said, we could see plenty of third-round pick Geron Christian on Thursday, whether it is in Williams’ spot at left tackle or over at right tackle. Veteran Ty Nsekhe is Williams’ top backup, however, Washington knows what it has in Nsekhe. The coaching staff needs to see what they have in a young player like Christian in live game action.

With the preseason opener looming, here are three things to watch for Washington on Thursday night.
