The Chicago Bears brought football back to our lives as they played in the 2018 Hall of Fame Game. Though technically the return of the NFL, that’s not when the NFL preseason really gets underway. That, instead, is reserved for Thursday, Aug. 9. And Chicago will once again be in action as they travel to take on the Cincinnati Bengals.
For the Bears in this game, we might see far more than we did in their opening contest in Canton. That’s because we could see the likes of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and running back Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen. Chicago didn’t play any real starters in the Hall of Fame Game, but that is likely to change as these guys adjust to the new offense of head coach Matt Nagy, which has been much hyped this offseason.
When you look at the Bengals, it was really a year to forget in 2017 as they missed the playoffs. Now Andy Dalton and Co. are looking to bounce back in a big way. They could see big things this season from Joe Mixon and bounce-back campaign from A.J. Green. This all hinges, however, on the improvements they made on the offensive line — like first-rounder Billy Price — working out for them heading into 2018.

The Bears obviously have one game in the preseason under their belts, but many of the starters have yet to get any preseason action. That will change against the Bengals, who will also give their guys some burn to see what they’re made of. What’s clear, however, is that we’ll start to learn more about two teams looking to bounce back after disappointing years.
