Which players should we be most excited about seeing when the Dallas Cowboys take the field against the San Francisco 49ers in Preseason Week 1?
Coming off a 9-7 campaign in which they missed the postseason, the Dallas Cowboys hope to have better fortune in 2018. They’ve put some work in this offseason trying to ensure that happens — even if they didn’t go about it the normal route.
Dallas stayed away from big free agent moves like usual — although they did reportedly try unsuccessfully for wideout Sammy Watkins. Instead, they opted for low-price signings and the draft to improve their roster. Well that, and addition by subtraction.
After studying their tape from 2017, the front office decided it was time to move on from wide receiver Dez Bryant, who no longer was worth his salary to them. The hope is that just like when they cut Terrell Owens back in 2009, someone else will step up and the chemistry for the team will be better.
Also being replaced is Jason Witten, who retired and took a job as a broadcaster for ESPN. Neither player will be easy to replace and much more of the offensive burden is now on the young shoulders of quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott.
On Thursday, their journey in 2018 begins and we likely won’t get many answers or snaps from their key players like Dak and Zeke. That doesn’t mean there won’t be some exciting players to see on the field for the first time this season.
