2. Cornerback depth chart

The Vikings have a very talented roster and two of the areas where they have the most depth is at defensive end and cornerback. Defensive end though seems to have it’s pecking order figured out.

Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter are the top players and veteran Brian Robison is their primary reserve — he’s also said this will likely be his last season in the league. From there they will mix in players like rookie Jalyn Holmes and second-year pr Tashawn Bower.

At cornerback, things may not be as clear. There are the starters Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes who likely are safe in their roles. Rhodes, for instance, is one of the best in the game and while Waynes hasn’t lived up to his draft status, the team has been happy enough to pick up the fifth-year of his contract.

Behind them is where things get convoluted. Mackensie Alexander was a second-round pick in 2016 and has plenty to like about his game and potential as a slot corner. They also have one of the longest-tenured players in the NFL back in Terence Newman. He may also be in his last year but plays well in head coach Mike Zimmer’s defense.

As if it didn’t get confusing with those four, the Vikings threw Mike Hughes into the mix when they made him their first-round pick this year. Saturday’s game will give us a small clue into how this will all work itself out.

The good news is, you can never have too many corners.
