4. Virgil Green (Los Angeles Chargers)

Anytime you can add a big positive to your team and at the same time hurt the chances of a division rival, it’s a plus in the NFL. The Los Angeles Chargers feature one of the best running backs in the league in the form of versatile Melvin Gordon. He finished seventh in rushing this past season, totaling 1,105 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. He was also second on the team with 58 catches, good for 476 yards and four touchdowns.

But the onus here is on running the football. And despite the talents of Gordon, the Bolts ranked 24th in the league in rushing yards per game. Anthony Lynn’s team is hoping to get better play from the offensive line and the Chargers upgraded the center position with the addition of former Miami Dolphins pro bowler Marquis Pouncey.

Now add former Denver Broncos’ tight end Virgil Green to the mix. He’s not the pass catcher Antonio Gates was and Hunter Henry (out for the season) was starting to emerge into. But he’s been among the most talented and effective blocking tight ends in the league. And he will do wonders for a ground attack that needs to be much more consistent.
