The first week of action in the 2018 NFL preseason is wrapped up and in the books, but who were the big winners and losers from Week 1?

Fans painstakingly awaited football to come back, and finally that time shined upon us all with the start of the 2018 NFL preseason. The Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 2 was an appetizer, but starting one week later, we got a full slate of NFL preseason action. And all was right in the world — well, sort of.

When it comes to the first week of the preseason, there is always a lot of overreaction and noise. Some of that noise is viable, some of it is not. Luckily, it’s not all that hard to discern what buzz falls in which category. However, there is only so much to glean from these games in terms of immediate regular season impact. After all, we’re talking about an exhibition in which many starters didn’t play a great deal (and some not at all).

Having said that, this is also a time for unknown commodities to prove their worth, for newcomers to do the same and for fringe players to move their way up depth charts. And for fans, this is also a time to start getting excited and/or worried about what’s to come when the regular season rolls around in less than a month.

And with that, we’re going to look at some of the key winners and losers from Week 1 of the 2018 NFL preseason. Obviously we won’t be able to touch on them all, but rather highlight some major ones around the league.
