The Dallas Cowboys have had success rushing the passer in the past. If they could add more, the pass rush could be lethal.

The Dallas Cowboys had two significant pass rushers last season. DeMarcus Lawrence and David Irving were a one-two combo from the edge and up the middle. Although these two racked up some serious sack numbers, their status with the team and injury concerns means the Cowboys will need to begin developing their replacements.

Of the two positions, the edge rusher is more valuable to a team than an inside pass rusher. The edge rusher may have a longer distance to the quarterback, but once they get home the changes of a turnover or big hit increase significantly. Thus, it would be wise for the Cowboys to be grooming edge rushers for the future.

The Cowboys have a lot of edge rushers in camp. This past off season they have added Kony Ealy from the New York Jets. They have also added former Green Bay Packer first-round pick Datone Jones into the mix. Jones and Ealy may provide short term relief at the position, but the Cowboys will need to develop a more long term solution to their pass rush needs.

Fortunately, the Cowboys have been investing in the edge rusher position for the past few years. It seems this training camp their investments are finally starting to pay off. Three edge rushers have stood out in camp as players who are putting it all together.
