4. Indianapolis Colts

What Ryan Grigson did to the Indianapolis Colts — aside from falling backwards into Andrew Luck — is a near-criminal offense. The former general manager whiffed time and again on draft picks and the result has been a team that can’t compete at the level that they should. This was never more evident than last season when Luck was on the sidelines and they simply had nowhere to turn.

Things are starting to change for the better, it seems, under the direction of new general manager Chris Ballard. Obviously, he still has a long way to go to undo all of the harm done by his predecessor, but the team is seemingly heading in the right direction. What’s more, Ballard has been adamant about being methodical in building this team properly. Having said that, opportunities to land a player like Mack don’t come around often — and they have a way of making GMs divert from the plan a bit.

Currently, the Colts edge rushers consist of Jabaal Sheard, John Simon, rookie Kemoko Turay and Tarrell Basham. If you’re looking at that group and aren’t scared of them at all, you’re likely thinking how every opposing offensive coordinator is as well. That’s not just a group who lacks star-power, but it’s a group that clearly lacks consistent, effective and proven pass-rushers on the whole.

Mack would clearly revamp this defense in a big way. A lot of pressure is going to be put on Luck this season as he returns with this roster still being built. However, improving the defense with the addition of Mack would surely put them further along on the rebuilding curve.
