2. New York Jets

Looking at the pass-rushers currently on the New York Jets roster is honestly a mildly depressing exercise at this point. This is a group that simply doesn’t have any firepower to their credit at all right now. From Jordan Jenkins to Lorenzo Mauldin to Josh Martin to David Bass, there is honestly not one player on the edge that you can count on to consistently create pressure on opposing quarterbacks and offenses in general.

Yes, the Jets have a star on their base 3-man front of the defense in Leonard Williams. What’s more, the addition of rookie Nathan Shepherd is one that could prove tremendously beneficial for them up front as he has the physical tools to really complement Williams on that front. The Jets have also invested heavily in the secondary in recent years, adding Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye in the draft in addition to Morris Claiborne and Trumaine Johnson in free agency.

Now all that this defense is really lacking is packing a punch off of the edge in terms of pass-rushing. Khalil Mack would instantly provide them with that and would have a far more promising cast around him on the defense than he has been saddled with throughout his time with the Raiders.

Of course, Jets head coach Todd Bowles famously seems to undervalue edge rushers. Having said that, it’s impossible for even Bowles to ignore what Mack is capable of and what he could potentially add to this defense. As such, if there’s a deal that could be made for the Jets, they’d be fools to not try and make it happen.
