30. Indianapolis Colts (31) – Play Monday Night vs. Baltimore

They’re 1-0 and heading to the bright lights of Monday Night Football this week. The Indianapolis Colts hope this season will be better than last when they were at the bottom of the AFC South along with the Houston Texans — both of whom finished with just four wins and 12 losses.

Both teams had the same issue that led to that finish — injuries at the most important position. Quarterback Andrew Luck didn’t play at all last year and while Jacoby Brissett was respectable in his play, he wasn’t Luck. The former No. 1 overall pick out of Stanford has been able to mask poor play from teammates and that was highlighted by how their offense dropped off a cliff without him.

What’s going to be important now is getting him some reps. Luck had surgery in January of 2017 and only recently started to be able to throw again. He’s going to be fine, but there’s no reason to think he won’t be somewhat rusty at first.

What’s also going to be important is the protection in front of him and Indy has been trying to get that fixed for a couple seasons now. Rookie guard Quenton Nelson has been their best investment in this regard and he should open up the offense by not only keeping the interior pressure off Luck but opening holes for the running backs as well.
