Devon Cajuste

By all accounts, the heartwarming story of Devon Cajuste has captured the hearts of the Browns faithful. Watching HBO’s Hard Knocks has opened fans eyes to the struggles Cajuste is working through to make the team.

Cajuste’s father has experienced three heart attacks. The tight end found out about the third on camera filming for Hard Knocks. His father’s presence has been an inspiration to him for his entire life. When his father is present, Cajuste plays well.

But can Cajuste crack a strong tight end room to make the team? He faces stiff competition. The Browns already have 2017 first round pick David Njoku on the roster. Njoku has been a centerpiece of the offense. Darren Fells was signed by the team this offseason to add run blocking to the room. Incumbent tight end Seth DeValve has been injured most of camp but remains a viable player on the team.

For Cajuste to make the team, he will need to show enough versatility to play both tight end and fullback. This would put him in competition with Danny Vitale for a roster spot at the H-back position.

Cajuste has played well enough to make the team while battling injuries. But do the numbers add up? The Browns may want to get a long look at Cajuste in many different roles to see how he may fit on the team. If so, fans may be yelling “Cajuste!” a lot come Thursday.
