Detroit Lions: Dontez Ford

The Detroit Lions are one of those teams that are thankful it’s only preseason since they enter Week 3 still in search of their first win, with their most recent loss coming against the New York Giants. Missing out on the playoffs last season despite being in control of their own destiny at one point late in the year was beyond frustrating for the Lions, but the good news is this team has the talent to make a run at the playoffs for the second time in three seasons.

If that’s going to end up happening, Detroit will need Matthew Stafford to perform like his usual self, as the Lions quarterback has a history of making the players around him better. Most of Detroit’s receivers, like Golden Tate for instance, have seen their careers benefit from playing alongside Stafford, and even though signing with the practice squad last year wasn’t what Dontez Ford was hoping for at the time, the wideout hopes the results are different this time around.

Catching three passes for 31 yards doesn’t sound impressive on paper, but when compared to some of the other receivers looking to make a case, Ford should consider this a win. Like some of his teammates, Ford still has plenty of work to do over these final two weeks, but if he can build off this recent performance, the wideout may have a shot to make the 53-man roster.
