1. Will we start to see a backup QB emerge?

The backup quarterback role — what some call the best job in all of sports — is still up for grabs, as both Brett Hundley and DeShone Kizer have yet to take a substantial lead in the race. Of course, we all know what happened last year when Hundley was forced into the fire following a substantial injury to Aaron Rodgers. It’s likely the biggest reason general manager Brian Gutekunst traded for Kizer.

In two preseason games Hundley has thrown for a combined 15-of-23 (65.2 completion percentage) for 185 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while Kizer has thrown for a combined 16-of-30 (53.3 completion percentage) for 283 yards and two touchdowns.

Hundley has been far more accurate, but has taken less shots down the field. He had an excellent 48-yard bomb to Davante Adams in the first preseason game, but has since resorted to shorter throws. Kizer, on the other hand, has taken far more chances — which have resulted in big gains — but has been wildly inaccurate otherwise.

Hundley’s only touchdown was on an eight-yard catch and run by running back Jamaal Williams. Kizer had a nice a back-shoulder touchdown throw to tight end Robert Tonyan, as well as a beautiful 82-yard catch and run by wide receiver Jake Kumerow.

All in all, each quarterback has yet to cement themselves as QB2, which could create a sticky situation for Green Bay when it comes time for final roster cuts. Friday night is a big chance for either to take the next step.
