1. Nick Foles

This wouldn’t be a reaction article if we didn’t mention the performance of Eagles quarterback Nick Foles. The instant reaction by all Eagles fans from this game is “I hope Carson Wentz is ready to go for Week 1.” Foles had a shot to rebound from his lackluster showing against the Patriots this week, but he failed pretty miserably.

It wasn’t horrible from the start though. On the Eagles first drive, Foles led a nice march down the field that was eventually thwarted on a missed fourth down attempt. It was the second drive that started the pain. With the Eagles starting at their own 1-yard line, Foles tripped over his own feet and was touched down by Browns defender Myles Garrett for a safety.

Looking to bounce back on the next drive, Foles followed up his safety with a lost fumble. On the following drive, Foles lofted a pass high in the air intended for Mike Wallace, instead it landed in the hands of Browns safety Briean Boddy-Calhoun for an interception. Three drives and three turnovers at the hand of Foles — not exactly Super Bowl MVP quality.

On Foles’ final drive to end the first half, he was able to string together a few nice plays to get down to the Browns 7-yard line. However, Foles’ night ended on another low note as he stared down tight end Zach Ertz and threw another interception into the hands of Browns linebacker Jamie Collins.

Overall Foles’ stat line of 13-of-17 for 127 yards is a positive that Foles can build on. But two interceptions, a lost fumble and a safety are things that can’t be overlooked. Foles most likely won’t play in the Eagles preseason finale next week, and nobody knows if Wentz will be ready to play Week 1 against the Falcons.

If Foles’ number is called in Week 1 Eagles fans will be hoping that he can put his preseason woes behind him and look more like the Foles of old. If he can’t you might be hearing chants for Nate Sudfeld at Lincoln Financial Field.
