5. Rashaad Penny, Seattle Seahawks

Current ADP: 98.8

Admittedly, I was very high on Rashaad Penny as a fantasy target just about a month ago. Then, the preseason happened and I started to worry. Now, I’m thinking it could be a disappointing year for anyone who’s already drafted the Seattle Seahawks’ 2018 first-round pick.

Now don’t get me wrong — Penny has plenty of talent. After reviewing his college tape and hearing what his Seattle coaches had to say, I’m convinced his NFL career won’t be a short one. I’m just not convinced we’re going to see many fireworks during his rookie campaign.

Why? Well for one, Chris Carson has looked like a starting-caliber running back through the first three preseason games. Not only did he look great in his short stint as the starter a season ago, but he’s impressed coaches in recent months and has made his presence felt when it matters. Right now, he’s got some sleeper appeal as a potential RB2.

Where does that leave Penny? Watching from the sidelines and making little to no fantasy impact, that’s where.

The upside is still there. If Penny can bounce back from his broken finger and shine early, the Seahawks could decide to split the workload between him and Carson. For now, though, it’s looking like the rookie could see far less action in 2018 than originally expected.
