4. Ronald Jones, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Current ADP: 98.8

Speaking of rookie running backs, there’s another notable name that has dropped the ball during training camp and the preseason. That would be Ronald Jones, who was expected to run away with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ starting job.

Instead, he’s watched Peyton Barber take the top spot on the depth chart. Meanwhile, Jones has been a complete train wreck during the preseason. Through his first three outings, he has as many carries (18) as rushing yards (18) and was gifted a goal-line touchdown. Barber has severely outplayed him, and his struggles in the passing game haven’t helped.

Now there’s a chance that this is all rookie jitters. In terms of overall talent, we have to assume that Jones beats Barber by a long shot. Unfortunately, what we’re seeing on game day doesn’t lend much credit to that assertion.

Jones could end up having a good season, but there’s too much risk involved at this moment. You’re better off drafting a more established runner who’s entrenched as the starter rather than hoping for a miracle from a first-year back who hasn’t been able to beat out an average-at-best teammate up to this point.

Maybe Jones just needs a year to learn the ropes. While he’s doing that, avoid drafting him.
