When you’re talking about team defenses and special teams, things are a bit more even than they are at other positions. You’re talking about groups of players, which adds a lot more volatility to the equation in terms of how they’ll perform. However, you can look at the talent and depth of these groups and try to make the best selection possible.
This might sound too simple, but perhaps your best strategy is just avoiding awful defenses. Even if you’re someone who likes to stream defenses week-to-week based on matchups, just stay away from teams like the Colts and you should have at least marginal success.
Defenses are rarely going to win you a fantasy football championship unless they are just out-of-this-world in terms of creating turnovers. However, picking the wrong one can certainly lead to you losing out.
