2. Bilal Powell

When they signed Isiah Crowell in the offseason, many people penciled him in as the starting running back for the Jets in 2018. As Lee Corso says, “Not so fast my friend!”

He may have only averages only 2.4 yards per carry, but Powell showed that he should at least be considered 1A — if not the full-fledged starter — for the running backs in 2018. Powell had some good runs on Friday night with one being a touchdown run.

He showed power on one of the runs where he kept his legs moving, and gained five yards. In addition, the touchdown run on the opening drive showed his breakaway ability. He took what the defense gave him, and when the holes were there, he found the yards.

Powell had enough plays in the game to at least warrant the belief that he could finally get his shot at being the man for Gang Green in the backfield. Crowell hasn’t gotten a lot of action due to a concussion, but Powell has moved ahead of him. It’s his time to be the bell cow, and the Jets need to give Sam Darnold Mr. Reliable in this backfield.
