New York Jets: 3 Big takeaways from Preseason Week 3
1. Bend don’t break defense
The No. 1 defense allowed only 15 yards on 14 carries in the first half. It was a huge showing for them. It’s going to be a strength of this team. The pass defense was ok, but it was the epitome of bend but not break.
The linebackers and secondary did allow quite a few plays of 10 or more yards in the air. However, the defense did keep the Giants out of the end zone and they had to settle for three field goals with the top defenders in the game for the Jets.
The defense also forced a fumble early in this game off of one of the special teams miscues. Darron Lee had an up and down day in coverage, but he looked much better out there, and he was in on the play wrapping up Jonathan Stewart allowing Avery Williamson to strip him for the fumble which was recovered by Leonard Williams.
The Jets also did get some pressure on the quarterback from the interior. So, what did this game tell us? Many Jets fans won’t have nails and may perspire a lot this season, but the scoreboard will reflect what this defense is, not the box score.
