Houston Texans: Keep Watson healthy

One of the most exciting teams during the early portion of the 2017 season was the Houston Texans. Deshaun Watson took the league by storm and was a phenomenal weapon. It was a welcome change for a team that’s struggled for years to find some good offensive play. They finally had it, and their quarterback of the future, but then terrible news broke.

During a practice, Watson suffered a torn ACL and his exciting rookie season was over. So too was the hopes of the Texans in the AFC South. What’s scary about this, is it was the second torn ACL for Watson in his football playing career.

He finished his freshman year at Clemson suffering the same injury. The prognosis after his surgery this last time was good as Watson recovered well and has been in action during the preseason. That doesn’t make his durability concerns go away.

While the Texans don’t want to limit him, they need to find a balance to his style of play — and their own protection — to keep Watson upright. His injury happened in practice, but later it was revealed he felt pain in the previous game, meaning the beating starts on the field for him.

2018 will be a success if the Texans get 16 games out of Watson and can be assured he will be the face of the future and not someone who continues to struggle with health.
