Jacksonville Jaguars: Repeat as South champs

What a season the Jacksonville Jaguars had in 2017. They’ve been dark horse candidates for years it seemed as they continually put together a roster full of young talent. They’ve also seemed to land a big-prize free agent each offseason. Then in 2017, they landed several big-name players.

Defensive end Calais Campbell, safety Barry Church and cornerback A.J. Bouye entered the mix and helped their defense become dominant. On offense, they learned to protect the ball and had the No. 1 rushing attack in the NFL.

That combination not only led them to the top of the AFC South, but they nearly upset the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. No one predicted it before the season, but now all eyes are on the young guys from Jacksonville.

Best case for them this season will be making another run in the playoffs, which will start with repeating as South champions. Making the big game will be hard because their offense is relying on players to take that next step, rather than adding any significant talent.

Even so, their defense is still phenomenal and there’s no reason to think running back Leonard Fournette won’t be better in his second season. They just need more from Blake Bortles and the passing game to get to the big game.
