New Orleans Saints: Another run with Brees

Drew Brees was a free agent a lot longer than anyone expected. Sure, no one expected him to actually leave the New Orleans Saints, but it seemed to take forever for the two sides to decide on a deal.

In the end, they agreed upon a two-year contract which could be the final deal of Brees’ impressive NFL career. That feeling seemed to be echoed by the team as they mortgaged their next draft to build a stronger roster.

After three straight 7-9 finishes, the Saints added some defensive help and that led to them winning the NFC South last season. They then fell just short of the NFC title game thanks to the ‘Minneapolis Miracle’ where Stefon Diggs scored a last-second touchdown to upset the Saints.

Knowing how much the defensive help aided their run, New Orleans traded their 2019 first-round pick to move up in the 2018 draft. Their target was UTSA defensive end Marcus Davenport. Putting him on the opposite side of the line from Cameron Jordan gives the Saints a defensive line that can compete with anyone.

That may be all it needs to get Brees back into the big game, where he’s already won once.
