Baltimore Ravens: Pass the torch

It’s past time to admit that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco no longer scares opposing defenses. He deserves credit as he cashed in big time when he led the team to a Super Bowl win — and he was extraordinary in that run. Flacco was heaving it deep and connecting with ease, but that’s not the same player who has been on the field for Baltimore the past couple seasons.

Whether it’s injuries, or defenses figuring him out, Flacco just doesn’t get it done like he used to. That’s why the Ravens went out and spent a first-round pick on Lamar Jackson. The Heisman winning rookie is the future of the franchise at the position and the best case scenario for Baltimore in 2018 is that they can begin the baton passing.

Jackson is raw, but he’s got a ton of talent. He won’t be ready Week 1 to take over, but that’s not their goal. Their goal is for him to slowly progress into the role, but it needs to happen. That’s why you hear word out of their camp that he’s going to be used in certain packages despite Flacco being the starter.

Baltimore wants Jackson to be their guy and this season, maybe even the next, will be all about him being prepared to do just that.
