Chicago Bears: Get Trubisky some experience
This isn’t 1985 anymore. When a team uses an early pick on a quarterback, he needs to play. When a team uses a top-5 pick on the first quarterback off the board, he needs to play early. John Fox didn’t think that was the case as he kept Mitchell Trubisky on the bench last season for too long while coaching the Chicago Bears.
Fox tried the same thing Jeff Fisher did while coaching Jared Goff with the Rams — using a mid-level veteran while letting the first signal-caller chosen sit and not get much-needed snaps. Both old-school coaches are now out of the league, and that’s not by mistake (and yes, Hue Jackson is trying to join them by bungling the Baker Mayfield situation).
Now new coach Matt Nagy could end up looking brilliant like Sean McVay did if he can get the most out of his young quarterback. Trubsiky has plenty to like, but his limited experience at college makes him incredibly raw. This season will be a big learning experience for him as he gets plenty of reps in for Chicago. They may not win a ton of games just yet, but Trubisky getting valuable experience is the ultimate key.
