After the conclusion of last season, it’s likely that both the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers were left lamenting what might have been with their campaigns. The Saints were one crazy game-ending play away from the NFC Championship Game, while the Chargers once again were unable to stay healthy enough to compete. Now they look to flip the script on those two unfortunate outcomes, with the next step being a Preseason Week 3 matchup.

The Saints return most everyone from the team that took them so close to the NFC Championship last season. That, of course, means that Drew Brees will once again be quarterbacking the offense. But now he has another weapon that emerged last year with running back Alvin Kamara. With him and Michael Thomas on offense and a defense breaking out with the likes of Cameron Jordan and Marshon Lattimore, they’re contenders again.

If they can avoid the dreaded injury woes again, the Chargers too could be contenders. Philip Rivers is another proven veteran in this league and, even with Hunter Henry already out for the year, his weapons like Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are enticing. The defense has already lost a key piece as well in Jason Verrett, but they have the likes of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram in there to still make them a fearsome group.

The Chargers clearly have high hopes for this season, even if the injury bug has already started to return and bite them once again.
