Seattle Seahawks: 3 Big takeaways from Preseason Week 3
By Samuel Teets
No running back stood out
Chris Carson‘s true ability remains unknown, as he had yet another okay performance, but certainly not one that will win him any snaps during the regular season. Carson had seven carries for 26 yards and a touchdown. That’s an average of 3.7 yards per carry, which is pretty low.
Mike Davis actually led the team in rushing yards with 31 on eight carries. His 3.9 yards per carry is also below the level that coaches and coordinators are usually looking for out of a running back. C.J. Prosise had the highest average yards per carry out of the Seahawks running backs with 4.5. He did only carry the ball four times for 18 yards though.
Prosise seems like the odd man out in the Seahawks running back race which features injured rookie Rashaad Penny and Carson as the two guys who will likely split carries during the regular season. Davis will also probably see some action, but that leaves Prosise out in the cold.
Carson’s performance was pretty much what we’ve seen from him all Preseason up to this point. He looked good weaving in for a touchdown and then catching a ball out of the backfield for 14 yards in the second quarter. But where’s the consistency? Sometimes when he touches the ball it feels like he’s ready to break a big play but then it just doesn’t happen.
The Seahawks are hopeful that their running game will be able to relieve some pressure off of Wilson this year but so far things aren’t off to a promising start. With any luck, Penny will provide the offense with a spark when he returns from injury.
