This is a new era in Bears football and Nagy is the perfect coach for it

With Nagy as the head coach, things are going to be different for this Chicago Bears team. This is a franchise that earned its keep as a defensive run-first team. Passing has always been a second thought. When Jay Cutler is your leading passer and the guy who is second is Sid Luckman, a quarterback who played 70 years earlier, you know there weren’t many very good quarterbacks in between.

Nagy looks to change all of that. He has a very quarterback-friendly offense. Chicago Bears fans aren’t used to seeing this. Many have a wait-and-see attitude to this. Remember, Marc Trestman tried to do the same. The offense was great for a year, but it didn’t result in a playoff spot and it sputtered in the second season to the point that he didn’t get another season to do anything else.

So far, Nagy is showing to be the perfect guy for this job. The Bears are a conservative team and don’t take change lightly. For a franchise that’s had some colorful players, it’s been a pretty bland team. Now Nagy comes around and is painting with multiple bright colors.

Yes, Nagy shook Bears Nation with his announcement on Friday night. You’d think he said the Bears sucked the way some fans reacted. He knew what waited for him in the post game press conference and he stood there, answered every question and doubled down on his move.

When the press conference handler announced just two more questions for Nagy, he waved it off and said they could ask him anything. For fans and media who dealt with John Fox for the last three seasons, this was refreshing.

Nagy did not try to hide from his decision. He explained it and owned it. When asked about sitting his starters he didn’t hesitate in his answer.

"If we win that game against Green Bay, it wouldn’t be because we played those 25 plays. And if we lost, it wouldn’t have been because we didn’t have those 25 plays. I promise you that…this was just me knowing the pulse of our team. I know this team better than anybody right now. And I feel strong about that. I know our players."

Well, what do you know? Nagy is in control of his players. If the fans and the media didn’t know that before they sure know it now. We are seeing the first steps of a new era in Chicago Bears football.
