The Dallas Cowboys have had better days than what they showed in Week 3 of the preseason, posing a few questions about the roster headed into the 2018 season.

Where does one begin when dissecting Week 3 of the preseason for the Dallas Cowboys? It wasn’t a true Week 3 dress rehearsal so to speak for the reasons that many of the usual starters didn’t play a snap and a majority of the reserve offensive roster seemed like they didn’t want to be there.

The Cowboys totaled eight turnovers, including five turnovers in the first half. Cooper Rush was the starting quarterback and Rod Smith was the starting running back, and it is very safe to say if this were to somehow have to occur during the regular season, it would not fare well for the Cowboys that day.

Granted, the starting offensive line of the Cowboys didn’t play in the game either, especially with Travis Frederick and Zack Martin recovering from injuries.

The defense of the Cowboys played well, including seeing Randy Gregory have a sack and two tackles. The rest of the defense wasn’t put in the best of spots all night, but they did give up a big play in the third quarter that left members of the Cowboys coaching staff unhappy as shown in the NBC broadcast.

There was more bad than good in this Week 3 preseason game, and if the Cowboys as a whole are proud of what seemed to be a lack of effort compared to what the Arizona Cardinals showed in that same game, then there are some problems for this team in the very near future.

Maybe this is a bit of an overreaction, and if so, well, that would be great, because if the mainstay Cowboys can get back in the lineup and play at a high level his will just become a distant memory. If players can’t get healthy and will miss games with injuries, can the reserves on the team be trusted?

Here are three big takeaways from the 27-3 preseason Week 3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
