20. San Francisco 49ers (19)

Keeping things going in the NFC West, the 49ers are one of the teams that could be standing in the way of the Cardinals when it comes to competing for a playoff spot in the NFC after ending last year on a hot note. Acquiring Jimmy Garoppolo when they did was one of the best decisions the 49ers made to make sure they would be set at quarterback for years to come after seeing him win each of his five starts to close out 2017.

Losing two preseason games in a row, with the most recent one coming against the Colts, will be seen as a reason for concern to some football fans, but as long as San Francisco has their act in order by Week 1, the team will be just fine. Even before training camp and preseason got underway, the 49ers were already viewed as a potential team ready to make the leap to playoff contender in the NFC, although that’s always easier said than done.

Unlike last season when San Francisco had nothing to lose at the end of the regular season, the team will be dealing with a new kind of pressure heading into 2018. Garoppolo finally got the big contract, and now it’s time for him to show he’s worth every penny.
