31. New York Jets (28)

For years, the New York Jets have desperately been searching for a potential quarterback to build the franchise around, and even though he’s still a work in progress, Sam Darnold is already showing signs of being that answer. A few months ago, the Jets seemed like they would take a different approach as far as the starting quarterback is concerned to allow the former USC star to spend his rookie season learning from the sidelines, but that may change for Darnold and the Jets.

The Jets may be coming off another loss to the New York Giants, but Darnold has looked good enough to at least earn the consideration for the starting job over Teddy Bridgewater or Josh McCown. With all due respect to the Jets, this team seems like they’re still going to be another year or two away before it’s appropriate to put them in the contender category, meaning there’s no harm in playing Darnold right away.

If anything, allowing Darnold to receive action right away as a rookie will help better prepare him for the future since it’s only a matter of time before he’s the permanent starter. By making him the starter this season, the Jets would only be speeding up the process with Darnold.
