2018 NFL Power Rankings: Concerns for Eagles following Week 3 preseason
By Dan Parzych
25. Buffalo Bills (24)
Excitement was high for the Bills heading into Sunday’s game against the Bengals since Josh Allen would be making his first start of the preseason to see if he would earn stronger consideration to start in Week 1. Unfortunately, the rookie quarterback didn’t do anything spectacular to stand out enough for Sean McDermott, and would end up being sacked five times by the Bengals.
Yes, the argument can be made that Allen is just dealing with the usual struggles most rookies tend to see, but also it’s kind of frustrating since he’s in the perfect situation to make a case for the starting job. With AJ McCarron currently sidelined due to an injury, all Allen has to do is beat out Nate Peterman during the preseason.
Seeing Peterman be one of the main highlights for Buffalo during their loss to Cincinnati shows Allen still has a long way to go before he’s ready to handle the starting role. Inconsistency at quarterback was one of the main factors holding the Bills back on offense last season while the defense ranked near the top of the league, so it will be interesting to see how this all plays out under center in a few weeks.
