Seattle Seahawks: 5 Reasons they’ll make the playoffs in 2018
By Samuel Teets
Despite an incredible amount of roster turnover and entering a rebuilding period, the Seattle Seahawks are in a position to compete for a playoff spot.
The Seattle Seahawks are a rebuilding team. There’s no arguing it, but they’re in a surprisingly good position for a team trying to transition between eras. A lot of big names such as, Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett, and Richard Sherman left the Seahawks this offseason. Sometimes the players wanted to move on, in other instances the team facilitated the move. The team is also in danger of not having Earl Thomas, who is holding out, and won’t have Kam Chancellor, whose career is over because of a neck injury.
It’s safe to say that the Legion of Boom is gone. Only a handful of players from Seattle’s golden age remain on the team. The three most notable being Thomas, Bobby Wagner, and Russell Wilson. Thomas might not be around but Wagner gives the young defense veteran leadership. And of course Wilson will serve as the center of the offense and propel as far as he can.
Last year the team went 9-7, narrowly missing the playoffs. This year there’s a legitimate argument for the Seahawks making the postseason this year. It’s by no mean a guarantee but Pete Carroll has taken on bigger challenges and Wilson has risen to an MVP level of play. The two of them, along with Wagner and the team’s remaining veterans, will have to work quickly to assimilate young and new talent into the team’s system.
It will be difficult and at times might seem unlikely, but the Seahawks are real playoff contenders. If they do make it to the postseason, these will be the key five reasons for their success.
