Tyrone Swoopes

Besides having a cool name, Swoopes hasn’t accomplished much at the pro level. He’s been on the Seahawks practice squad several times and has only ever been in one regular season game. That being said, standing at 6-4 and weighing 254 pounds, I can see why the team wants him to stick around. Incredibly enough, Swoopes played quarterback at Texas before converting into a tight end in the NFL.

Right now, he’s third in the tight end rotation for the Seahawks and that would normally secure his spot except for the fact that Ed Dickson will be returning from injury sooner or later to push Swoopes down a spot. The two healthy tight ends slotted ahead of him right now are Nick Vannett, a third year player out of Ohio State, and rookie fourth round selection Will Dissly.

It’s unfortunate for Swoopes, but both Dissly and Vannett are more skilled and have more developed backgrounds with the tight end position. As for Dickson, he’s the veteran of the bunch who has significant experience and moderate success in the NFL. And since Seattle lost Jimmy Graham and Luke Willson this offseason, they need all of the established pass catchers they can get at the position. Swoopes might be headed back to the practice squad.
