Former New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott had some words for current linebacker Darron Lee on WFAN last week. Will they fuel Lee to improve?

Sometimes in life we just need a little push, and when that push comes from a person who knows what you’re going through, because he’s been through what you’re going through, it can lead to big things. Well, maybe comments made by former New York Jets linebacker on WFAN last week will be the fuel Darron Lee needs.

Former Jets linebacker Bart Scott now is a talk show host on New York’s WFAN. He hosts alongside Chris Carlin and Maggie Gray on the appropriately titled CMB midday show that airs from 1-3 PM.

On an episode last week following the Snoopy Bowl against the Giants, he referred to Lee as “a little plush.” He also had this to say, according to NJ.com:

"“But when you’re turning [contact] down in an era when you don’t even have any real fullbacks? Man, if I was in that locker room, I would have to tell him, ‘Look, bro, you either drop your marbles, or you need to take your bag and go.'”"

Here’s how Lee responded, also per NJ.com:

"“Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. He has my number. I don’t really have a problem with it. It’s his opinion. [Criticism] comes with the territory, man. You can’t expect to get a pat on the back all the time.”"

Scott was on the air following Lee’s comments and told us how he was a safety in college and had to bulk up just to get noticed. He was an undersized inside linebacker just like Lee is. He said that he noticed that not only does he have issue with desire, like the quote indicates, but technique as well.

No matter the case, let’s hope that the criticism from Scott can light a fire under Lee. He’s in his third season, and it’s a critical year for him if he wants to be a major player in this league.

Scott said he’d work with him if the team allowed it and Lee reached out to him. The Jets and/or Lee should take him up on that offer, because a guy like Scott can not only help him physically but from a mental aspect as well. Lee needs it, and the Jets need Lee to take that next step.

If Scott’s comment did light a fire under Lee, I only have one thing to say to that, “CAN’T WIAT!”
