New York Jets: Predicting every game of the 2018 season
Week 9 at Miami, Nov. 4
The Jets have dropped their last two decisions at Hard Rock Stadium, including a 31-28 setback last October. That was the game in which Gang Green blew a 28-14 fourth-quarter lead. Oh the pain.
New York is hoping this contest will be different but the Dolphins are a scrappy team in South Beach. Kenyan Drake, who averaged 4.8 yards per carry last season, rushes for 95 yards and a score and old Jets nemesis Danny Amendola grabs a 24-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Tannehill to propel Miami, 20-17. Record: 5-4
Week 10 vs. Buffalo, Nov. 11
These two old-time rivals from the AFL days have met 115 times since 1960 with the Bills owning a 61-54 advantage. They split their two games last season. LeSean McCoy usually gives them trouble (159 yards from scrimmage in Game 1 last year), so the Jets will have to make sure he does not break containment. They must keep wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin in check as well. Hello Trumaine Johnson.
In this battle, I expect Gang Green’s defense to force rookie quarterback Josh Allen into a pair of interceptions. Combine that with 245 yards passing and two touchdown passes from Sam Darnold and the Jets move two games over .500 with a 20-9 triumph. Record: 6-4
The Jets get their bye in Week 11
Week 12 vs. New England, Nov. 25
This is always a huge game and MetLife Stadium will be rocking and rolling. It will feel like a playoff game. The Patriots have won four straight between the two rivals and lead the all-time series, 62-54-1. The Jets can really make a statement with a win here. Unfortunately, the Pats still have Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, two long-time thorns in their side.
Expect a high scoring game with Brady and Darnold throwing a pair of touchdown tosses each but a late Brady to Julian Edelman touchdown connection with under three minutes left lifts the Patriots to a 31-27 victory in one of the most exciting contests of the season. Record: 6-5
Week 13 at Tennessee, Dec. 2
The last time these two squads met was in 2015 at MetLife with the Jets securing a 30-8 win. The Titans will be looking to make the playoffs once again behind quarterback Marcus Mariota. New York has to be concerned with the backfield tandem of Derrick Henry and former Patriot Dion Lewis. Tight end Delanie Walker is always a threat as well.
This is a very tough matchup for Gang Green. The duo of Isaiah Crowell and Bilal Powell combine for 130 yards on the ground and Darnold fires a short touchdown strike to Chris Herndon to lead the Jets to a 16-12 triumph. Record: 7-5
