The Oakland Raiders head into preseason week 4 needing to make multiple roster decision. Three players need to prove they deserve a roster spot.

The Oakland Raiders are heading into their fourth and final preseason game. Traditionally, this is the game where the backups have an opportunity to state their final case. What they put on tape could make or break their season or careers.

The Backup Bowl will be a test for several Raiders backups hoping to make the team. There are questions at quarterback, running back and wide receiver that need answered. This upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks’ backups is where those questions will be answered.

The quarterback position is open season. Backup quarterback play has been less than acceptable this preseason. When asked if the backup quarterback is on the roster (per NFL.com), head coach Jon Gruden stated, “I don’t know.” This is not exactly a ringing endorsement is the situation.

The running back room is more stable than the quarterback room. But beyond the Marshawn Lynch and Doug Martin, there are several players fighting to make the team. The backups have been good this preseason making the Raiders’ decision that much harder.

The slot receiver role is a mess. But the trade of Ryan Switzer to the Pittsburgh Steelers brings some clarification to the role. However, there are contenders looking to earn that spot. The Backup Bowl will solidify someone’s fate.

Let’s examine each in turn. Will someone step up to the backup quarterback role?
