Oakland Raiders: 3 Players with something to prove vs. Seahawks
By Joel W. Cade
Leon Hall
Leon Hall was brought in due to his experience in defensive coordinator Paul Guenther’s defense. Hall was a first-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2007. He played nine years with the Bengals including two years under Guenther as defensive coordinator.
The past few years have been unkind to Hall. He has become a journeyman defensive back. He has started a total of six games over the past three years. Counting the Raiders, he is currently playing for his fourth team in the past four years. But such is the life of a former first round pick trying to hang on at the end of his career.
The Raiders brought him in to be the experienced veteran to help bring the other defensive backs up to speed with the defense. However, Hall may have done too good of a job. Now it looks like he may be squeezed out by the numbers game.
After 10 years in the league, Hall is a proven commodity. He is also more expensive than a younger player on a rookie contract. Hall needs to do his best to prove his presence off the field is worth any liabilities he may have on the field. He also needs to prove that the liabilities on the field are few.
