There is a ton of hype about the Chicago Bears right now as the 2018 regular season approaches. Despite their shortcomings in recent years, they’ve made moves to get back to looking like the successful Bears of old. On Thursday, Chicago travels to take on the Buffalo Bills in Week 4 of the 2018 preseason though. And the Bills, well, they’re on a bit of a different trajectory than their opponents.
After making the postseason in a shocking finish last season, the Bills largely blew it up. Not only did they trade their starting left tackle, but also Tyrod Taylor. In turn, they landed two potential starters in free agent AJ McCarron and rookie Josh Allen. However, this is a team that has holes all over and, despite the moves, questions this year at quarterback. They’re a big regression candidate in 2018.
As for the Bears, they could be in store for a huge boom season in 2018. Of course, much of that depends on second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and his progression under new head coach Matt Nagy. With Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel arriving to help him, it’s certainly in the cards. But we’ll have to see if Chicago is ready to really make a jump.

We could see two teams heading in opposite directions on Thursday night. The Bears seem to be on the upswing with all the moves they’ve made, even if they have work still to do. Meanwhile, the Bills seem a far cry from the playoff team they were a year ago, as they might be at the beginning-to-middle stages of a rebuild.
