Jacksonville Jaguars: Dante Fowler Jr.

After years of failing to make the leap in the AFC to become a serious playoff contender, the Jacksonville Jaguars finally made it happen last season, and were even on the verge of reaching the Super Bowl. One can only imagine how different things would have been if the Jaguars didn’t blow that 10-point lead in the fourth quarter against the New England Patriots, but at least this gives the team motivation to continue being successful in 2018.

Defense was the main reason behind Jacksonville’s success when looking at how the unit ranked near the top of the league last season, and while the team has plenty of reasons to feel confident over that happening, there are still plenty of questions. For instance, the Jaguars will already be without Dante Fowler Jr. during that first game as a result of a suspension, which also brings up the question about the possibility of just moving on from him in general.

Keep in mind that Jacksonville already declined Fowler’s fifth-year option back in May, and even though the team hinted at the time they would like to work out a long-term deal down the road, this doesn’t mean it will be a smooth process. Not to mention, Fowler has only started one game over the last two seasons, and while he’s been great as a backup, this also shows the Jaguars would adjust fine without him.
