New York Jets: Josh McCown

In what will go down as one of the biggest surprises of the week leading up to roster cuts, the New York Jets pulled a surprise trade on Wednesday by sending Teddy Bridgewater to the Saints, making it seem clear that Sam Darnold will enter Week 1 as the starter. Throughout the offseason, one of the biggest questions surrounding the Jets was which quarterback they would go with for the 2018 season since the team had plenty of options to choose from.

While New York knew that drafting Darnold would eventually result in him being the full-time starter, Bridgewater or Josh McCown also seemed to be likely candidates to be the short-term answer for at least this year. And since the Jets already ruled out Bridgewater following the trade, the case can be made for them to do the same with McCown.

The only reason New York even has McCown on the roster in the first place is due to his veteran experience, but his career record is far from anything to brag about. Keeping McCown around to guide Darnold certainly has it’s benefits, but also the argument can be made that other veterans could be a better fit, ones with better career records.
