San Francisco 49ers: Jimmie Ward

All eyes will be on the San Francisco 49ers heading into Week 1 when looking at the expectations surrounding this team after ending last year on a high note as one of the hottest teams in the NFL. The first half of last season made it seem like the year was a lost cause for the 49ers, but after winning each of their final five games once Jimmy Garoppolo took over as the starter, this team quickly drew early consideration as a serious playoff contender in 2018.

It’s difficult to explain how much of an impact Garoppolo was able to make right away, and what’s even more amazing to see is the way he rubs off on his teammates to bring out the best in them on offense. But as mentioned a few times before, an offense can only do so much on their own without the proper support of the defense, and if that means San Francisco needs to part ways with certain members on defense, than let it be done.

Whether he wants to hear it or not, Jimmie Ward has been one of the biggest victims of the injury bug for most of his career, and the defensive back is already having issues again in 2018. As much as the 49ers would love to continue giving Ward another chance, it’s already been long overdue.
