NFL 2018: One roster cut each team should make, but won’t
By Dan Parzych
Chicago Bears: Kevin White
After three years of frustration, there’s nothing the Bears would love more than to see White finally live up to the hype by staying healthy, and putting together a breakout season to give the team a better chance of possibly becoming a surprise contender in the NFC. However, sometimes when it comes to former first-round picks after a certain amount of time, the best thing to do is realize a poor investment, and move on, which may be the best option for Chicago with White.
Even if the argument can be made that White seems to finally be on the right track after an impressive outing in the preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs in which he caught a 29-yard touchdown, one game doesn’t determine a player’s potential. And when looking at how many times the Bears have rewarded White with an opportunity along with the fact that his fifth-year option was declined by the team, Chicago has to wonder if it’s worth continuing to wish for something that may never work out.
Also, the Bears were considered one of the biggest winners this offseason from free agency thanks to landing key players like Allen Robinson and Try Burton. Pressure is always at an all-time high for players during contract seasons, and since White already seems to be a likely candidate to move on from if 2018 turns into another bust, why not just consider making the move early?
