Cincinnati Bengals: Michael Johnson

As bad as it sounds, it’s quite common in the NFL to see teams eventually part ways with key veterans, no matter how much they may have accomplished over the years, which could be the case with Michael Johnson of the Cincinnati Bengals. Other than one year in 2014 where he spent a season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Johnson has been with the Bengals for his entire career (entering ninth of 10th season), but questions are beginning to emerge over whether he will earn one of the roster spots for 2018.

When seeing how Cincinnati has missed out on the playoffs over the last two seasons, it’s easy to understand why the team may be looking to make changes at numerous positions, although one would think they would be wise enough to move on from Marvin Lewis by now. Since his monster season in 2012 when he recorded 11.5 sacks, Johnson has seen his production decline for the most part over the last couple of years.

Could Johnson still have little gas left in the old tank heading into his 10th NFL season? Absolutely. But if the Bengals feel they could be better off taking a younger approach on the defensive side of the football, Johnson could be the odd man out.
