Quarterback (3): Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush, Mike White

The most important position is saved for last. It’s also the least surprising. Dak Prescott is set as the starter under center and is the face of this franchise. He’s 22-10 in two seasons and hungry for that next step. He didn’t play much in the preseason due to the offensive line injuries, so hopefully he doesn’t come out flat.

The real talk this preseason hasn’t been centered around Dak though. Instead, it’s been Cooper Rush everyone wants to chime in on. The second-year quarterback struggled mightily this preseason and it has people clamoring for a new backup. There’s nothing to say Dallas won’t scour the waiver wires for another option, but absent someone they love falling in their laps, this is likely the guy they turn to if Prescott is hurt.

Rookie Mike White showed some promise, but Dallas probably should have had him work with the second team more often. He was highly regarded by scouts coming out of Eastern Kentucky, but needs reps to be ready for a bigger role in the NFL.

Perhaps he can work with the scout team and pass up Rush. If he doesn’t show that he can handle that role, the Cowboys will likely strongly consider a veteran in the offseason.

They’ve been burnt in that area as well however — see Matt Cassell, Brandon Weeden — so maybe  they do stick with youth from now on regardless of any progress from these two behind Prescott.
