5. Jordan Wilkins, Indianapolis Colts

Current ADP: 141.8

There were many names I considered for this spot. Let me run them down for you (in no particular order):

  • Kerryon Johnson, who has to contend with three others for touches
  • Sony Michel, who’s missed the entire preseason due to a knee injury
  • Ronald Jones, who was AWFUL (28 carries, 22 yards) during the preseason
  • John Kelly, who will rarely see the field with Todd Gurley ahead of him on the depth chart
  • Chase Edmonds, same situation as Kelly except with David Johnson

So Jordan Wilkins it was. Now that’s not to say that there aren’t reason to be worried about his fantasy upside. In fact, there are several. In this situation, though, I think it’s like politics — deciding which is the better of two (or many) evils.

Unlike the other names I mentioned, Wilkins seems destined for a co-starter role to begin the 2018 season. With Marlon Mack hurt and Robert Turbin suspended, the Indianapolis Colts figure to roll with Wilkins and Christine Michael as their two co-starters. Nyheim Hines may also have a role, but maybe not after his fumble-filled preseason.

So while the rest of the aforementioned players are hoping for crumbs falling from stars’ plates or trying to contend with two or three more-established runners, Wilkins should see a significant workload from the get-go. What he will do with it is still to be determined.

If you’re looking for a late-round RB with some sleeper potential, Wilkins is an option.
