2. Royce Freeman, Denver Broncos

Current ADP: 19.6

Heading into the preseason, there was some buzz around Royce Freeman. With the Denver Broncos lacking an established starter, the door was wide open for the rookie to steal the top spot on the depth chart. Well, he certainly did his best.

At this point, it doesn’t seem like he completely edged out Devontae Booker for the starting gig. However, based on his preseason performance, he certainly earned himself some serious touches in what should be a split backfield. Compared to the rest of the names we’ve already discussed on this list, that’s about as good as it gets.

Freeman was a pleasure to watch during the preseason. Although he only carried the ball 15 times, he amassed 84 yards (5.6 per carry) and three touchdowns along the way. In juxtaposition to Booker’s nine carries for 33 yards and zero touchdowns, it was quite the showing.

The only real concern I have for Freeman is Phillip Lindsay’s role in the offense. The undrafted rookie was also a pleasant preseason surprise for the Broncos, quickly emerging as a third-down threat with his shiftiness and receiving skills. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he carved out a role for himself as a receiving specialist out of the backfield.

Still, in relation to the other rookie running backs, Freeman offers a ton of upside. If he can shine early, the 2018 third-round pick should run away with the starting gig.
