New York Jets: 3 Players who made the roster in Preseason Week 4
Most fans hate the fourth preseason game, but three members of the New York Jets cemented their roster spots against the Eagles.
Let’s be honest, most fans and the media would rather they not even have the fourth preseason game. When the New York Jets played the Philadelphia Eagles, the game was mostly about the back-end of the roster and special teams.
Three players may have either solidified their holding on a roster spot or earned one against the Eagles.
Let’s take a look at those players.
Running back Trenton Cannon
Cannon wasn’t dynamic on the ground, although he did have one good run. Where he made the team will be as the return man. Cannon will be the third running back on the team, and showed that his early woes in the return game were mental more than physical.
He tracked the ball well as the punt return man and had a good kickoff return. I believe Elijah McGuire will begin the season on the Reserved/Injured, Designated return spot, and that will leave Cannon some time to grow into his role as the return man.
Kicker Jason Myers
Myers opened the scoring in this game with a 58-yard field goal that all but solidified his spot on this team. Part of the reason he’s even on this team was due to an injured veteran kicker and an inexperienced young kicker the Jets didn’t trust. However, that bomb of a kick all but made him this year’s kicker.
Fullback Lawrence Thomas
Thomas earned a role as a lead blocker and also a pass catching weapon out of the backfield for Sam Darnold tonight. His stay may be short-lived, though, because when McGuire comes off of “short term IR” the Jets will have a big decision to make on who to cut. That said, one catch and some decent blocking earned him a temporary spot on the roster.
