4. Joining forces with Roquan Smith and Kyle Fuller gives Chicago a nasty foundation

Not only will Khalil Mack help his new teammates get better, but he’s not going to be on an island any longer. The past couple seasons in Oakland, they’ve struggled to field a great defense around Mack. That’s resulted in him doing a lot of work on his own, but that won’t be the case in Chicago.

The Bears have been building a better defense over the past few seasons, so Mack doesn’t come over as the beginning of a rebuild. Instead, he becomes the missing piece to an underrated defense led by a great mind in defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

In 2014, the Bears spent the No. 14 pick on defensive back Kyle Fuller. Since then he’s developed into one of the better corners in the NFL and was given a four-year $56 million contract this offseason to prove this.

This past draft, they added Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith with the No. 8 overall pick. These aren’t the only solid defensive players on the roster, but it does give them some real star power at all three levels with the addition of Mack.

The NFC North is a team full of strong offenses and having Mack there lets them stay competitive and could swing a few games in their favor.
