4. Marshon Lattimore in Defensive Player of the Year running

To say that Marshon Lattimore exceeded expectations would be an understatement. He wasn’t just a great rookie but a great defensive player. Despite early injuries, Lattimore stepped up his game and became exactly what the Saints were looking for. 2017 was a huge year for Lattimore, including winning Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Heading into the 2018 season, there’s a lot of hype around Lattimore. Rightfully so as the Saints are one of the most underrated defensive units. Last season, Lattimore led the team with interceptions and went toe-to-toe with some of the toughest receivers in the league.

He did make some rookie mistakes, but it should be ironed out this season. He now has a year of experience and a chip on his shoulder. As a rookie, Lattimore was extremely confident. If he keeps that confidence, it’s going to be rewarded.

Similar to last year, I see Lattimore being in the running for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. While I’m not guaranteeing a win, I think the league is starting to realize how powerful the Saints defense is. It’d be stupid not to cite Lattimore as an example for that. With the Saints as hyped as they are, it’s time they’re given the credit they deserve.
