NFL Draft 2019: Each team’s biggest need entering season

Miami Dolphins – Defensive Tackle 

The middle of the Dolphins defensive line needs some help. Jordan Phillips’ motor runs hot and cold and he’ll hit free agency in 2019. The only other notable names are Davon Godchaux and Akeem Spence, but neither of them jump off the screen. They need a true three-technique who’ll help their interior pass rush and fill the void left by Ndamukong Suh being cut. 

Minnesota Vikings – Offensive Guard 

The interior offensive line isn’t all that great. If the Vikings are going to have a running game, it’ll be done with Dalvin Cooks ability to create. Nick Eason is done for the year with a neck injury, but even when healthy, he wasn’t very good. The need for a guard isn’t going anywhere, so the Vikings scouts will pound the pavement for an interior lineman. 

New England Patriots – Quarterback

They have Tom Brady now, so technically this isn’t a hole, but not having a successor is concerning. It doesn’t matter if Tom Brady wants to play until he’s 45, time catches up to everyone. Even if he does, he shouldn’t be a Patriot. They need to look forward if they don’t want to become the Denver Broncos or Miami Dolphins.

New Orleans Saints – Linebacker 

Unlike the aforementioned Patriots, the Saints have thought about life after Drew Brees. Teddy Bridgewater could end up being the soon to be the successor to the all-time leading passer, Drew Brees. Now the biggest need is middle linebacker where Manti Te’o currently plays. He’s an average backer who doesn’t make enough plays. The run defense gave up over 111 yards per game and he was part of the problem. 

New York Giants – Safety

Unlike the aforementioned teams with quarterback problems, the Giants have Davis Webb and Kyle Lauletta. Moreover, Eli Manning doesn’t look like he’s slowing down — the offensive line is just now catching up. However, the secondary needs help, especially the free safety spot. Curtis Riley is a stop-gap and former third-round pick Darian Thompson hasn’t developed. Landon Collins can only do so much, so he’s going to need some help.
